Community Potluck cancelled tonight!
Due to inclement weather, we will be re-scheduling this event for Jan. or Feb. 2011. Stay tuned for more info.
Community Potluck hosted by Transition Nashville
A great opportunity to join with old friends, meet new ones, eat healthy and lovingly prepared foods and learn about winter gardening from a pro - all in one place!! Next Monday, Dec. 13th, 6:30-9pm, Transition Nashville, an organization focused on helping to creating a more resilient, localized and sustainable Nashville, will be hosting a community potluck and learning event at the West Nashville United Methodist Church,
4710 Charlotte Ave. / Nashville, TN 37209.
The theme of the supper is “Eating Locally Through the Winter”. Cindy Moonrose, one of our team members and a veteran year-round gardener / teacher, will be offering a presentation on various edibles that can be grown in our region throughout the winter months (the list is wider and more varied than you might think), as well as excellent resources for the aspiring four-season gardener.
Those attending are asked to bring a dish reflecting this theme by using foods that can be grown or sourced locally at this time. We are blessed to have some wonderful local food resources throughout our city. One such resource is the West Nashville Winter Farmer’s Market sponsored by Good Food for Good People, which is open on Sat.’s from 10am-noon, now located indoors at 4610 Alabama Ave. (directly behind the Darkhorse Theater on Charlotte Ave.), 37209. The building has “LOVE” painted on the side in huge letters – you can’t miss it! So don’t worry if you, like me, are not yet growing or producing your own food beyond the “conventional” growing season. That’s all the more reason to come join us and build your knowledge!
For more information on Transition Nashville and this event, as well as to RSVP, please go to; www.meetup.com/transition-nashville. You will also find a list of foods that can be used and other helpful resources.
We will be planning events at this location on a regular (monthly or alt. month) basis, and are actively seeking a similar venue in the East Nashville area, so stay tuned!
